DirectWest gets innovative with QR code technology!

Posted by Amanda Maier on Thu, Jul 14 2011 14:20:00

We are very excited to announce the use of quick response (QR) codes on our phonebook covers effective with the 2011 Regina City SaskTel Phonebook.

QR codes are digital bar codes, that when scanned using a smartphone, provide users with additional information in a digital format.  They are useful in advertising, promotions and contesting because they can provide timely and valuable information in places where space is limited such as product packaging, flyers, magazines and point of sale displays.

In order to scan, smartphone users will require a QR code reader.  Some newer devices will already be equipped with a QR code reader while some older devices will require one to be downloaded.  There are many free apps/readers available through BlackBerry App and iTunes.

In this case, the QR code is being used to promote and facilitate the download of our free mysask411 mobile app for Blackberry and iPhone devices.   “Since the launch of the mobile phonebook app, we’ve received great feedback,” said Margaret Kourles, Vice-President of Marketing at DirectWest.  “Users appreciate the ability to find information on local people and businesses- anytime, anywhere, anyhow they want it. And we are very excited about the opportunity to promote it using this innovative QR code technology.”

Try this QR code and download our free mysask411 mobile app.
